THE CLEAN REVOLUTION
What began in 2011 as a kitchen-table drafted mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone sparked a movement. Over the next decade, that movement helped pass 16 health-protective laws—including the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 (MoCRA), the first major update to U.S. cosmetic regulation since 1938—and driven dozens of additional state, federal, and Canadian efforts advancing ingredient safety and transparency.

Use what you learn. Support brands doing the real work to create real clean. Look for:
First: A clear point of view on what “clean” means for their formulation standards.
Second: Full ingredient transparency and disclosure (for example, the entire ingredient list is on the product’s packaging or website).
Third: Credible third-party certifications*, such as EWG Verified, as one indicator of a brand’s commitment to ingredient safety.
Consumers consistently choosing shifts market demand. And when demand shifts, the industry follows.
*Remember: While a certification doesn’t necessary tell the whole story, they offer meaningful validation that a brand is willing to subject its standards to independent review.
